The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Carrie Saunders can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Carrie's extended family

Carrie Saunders was a beloved and courageous, brave and marvelous friend of the Holbrook family for almost 70 years.. This was long after her beloved husband Fletcher died.  She soldiered on, living by herself, supporting and managing her beautiful property all by herself for 80 years or more.  She ran the Grange, oversaw contributions to the Blue Hill Fair, kept the homes of her many devoted clients, and was particularly known for her "beyond delicious" blueberry pies and her legendary chocolate chip cookies.  She set an example of tenacity and hard work that is hard to top.  Her constant cheerfulness and "get up and go" attitude rubbed off on us all, setting a wonderful ezxample for our children and grandchildren.  I called her "our little hickory nut", tiny but powerful!

We miss her terribly, and wish to thank in particular, her devoted friend Etta Perkins, her dear dear friend Vijaya, her niece Kelly, and her many many friends and neighbors who visited her daily and served as her gatekeepers right up to the end.  We will miss her terribly.

Deborah, Penny, Sarah and Sherry Holbrook, our children and grandchildren.
