The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Carrie Saunders can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Deborah Holbrook Winthrop

Carrie Saunders was a huge part of our Holbrook family. She worked for Ruth and Luther for probably 60 years, always happy to wash windows, climb over the basement stairs to do the laundry, and of course, to clean the house immaculately and even to cook when holidays were upon us. The four of us children, and now our collective 7 grandchildren, 8 including Mary's Donald, and our about to be eight! GREAT grandchildren: 1-Megan's boy Antar, 1-Cass's son Lysander, 2of Jennie's: Lucy and #2 on the way, 2 of Terin's: Gray and Caroline, 2 of Jay's, Brad and Robbie, and 3 (# 3 of Bayard's expected in July) of Bayard's, 3 of Justin's and 1 of Dylan's, little Clare - are the beneficiaries of Carrie's wonderful legacy. We are all so grateful to have had Carrie's presence and values in our lives. No job was ever to difficult for Carrie; she would be up at sunrise and at our house while many of us were still asleep; she would stay for as long as the family needed her attention, then return home to mow her lawn(!), pick raspberries, and cook, clean her barn, then cook supper. She was eternally up beat, energetic. and grateful. Carrie was the rock our family leaned on during our happiest and ever so memorable stays in E Blue Hill. We miss her and can only thank the wonderful neighbors Carrie adored: Roxie and Etta, her friend Vijaya, and so many names I haven't included who kept her cherishing her life and fighting for every breath! Bless you, Carrie, you have gone to a happy place, gone but never forgotten. With our tears and love from your entire Holbrook family. Hugs, D H and all
