Obituary for John S. Fernald Jr.
John S. Fernald Jr., 85, died March 31, 2018 at a Bangor hospital. He was born November 25, 1932 In Mt. Desert the son of John S. and G. Pauline Fernald, Sr.
John was the owner of Bordeaux Dairy Farm from 1960- 1987. He became owner and operator of the Kimball Terrace Inn and Main Sail Restaurant in Northeast Harbor in 1969, where he was active up until his death.
John was an Anah Temple Noble since 1960 and became Potentate in 1992, having served at outer guard since 1972. He was Past Master of Mt. Desert Lodge No. 140, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Acadia Chapter of Ellsworth, Maine Consistory of Portland, Royal Order of Jesters in Bangor, Blanquefort Commandery and Knights Temple, both of Ellsworth and other Shrine Clubs. He was a member of the Mt. Desert Board of Selectmen for twenty years, member of the Mt. Desert Island Lions Club since 1962, where he served as a Past President, Past president of the Mt. Desert Medical Center and past President of Mt. Desert Nursery School.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Betty (Walls) Fernald; three children, Cecil Fernald and wife Julie, Stephen Fernald and wife Wanda, and Penny Fernald all of Mt. Desert; three special grandchildren; Emily, John and Alice Fernald; a brother Robert Fernald and wife Jean; a nephew, niece and four cousins.
Friends are invited to visit with the family, 4-6pm, Friday, April 6, 2018 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main Street, Mt. Desert where a Masonic Service will follow at 6pm. Funeral Services will be held at 3pm, Sat. April 7, 2018 at Jordan-Fernald. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Mt. Desert.
Those who desire may make contributions in John’s memory to the Mount Desert Masonic Lodge #140, PO Box 315, Mt. Desert, ME 04605 or the Mt. Desert Nursing Association, P.O. Box 397, Northeast Harbor, ME 04662.
