Gary Smith Beal, 66, died July 3, 2017 at his home in Surry. He was born in Ellsworth, December 17, 1950 the son of Sheldon C. and Norma S. Beal.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School in the class of 1969 and from the University of Maine in Orono with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed for many years by the State of Maine as a Civil Engineer. Gary worked for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department for several years and was a member of the Senator Hale Hose Company from 1970 to 1985. In 1998 Gary and his son moved to Florida and they returned to Maine in 2012 for family reasons.

He is survived by his beloved son, Greg Beal; brother, Lloyd Beal and wife Karen; nephew, Ben Beal and wife Jen; niece, Kate E. Beal; stepchildren; Jamie L. Campbell and Kaycie L. Campbell; great-nieces, Sophie and Grace Beal; great-nephew, Joey Beal; cousins, Richard F. Beal, Thelma S. Beal and Ricky Smith and wife, Vicki; He was predeceased by his parents; and cousin, Thomas F. Beal.

A private service will be held at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
