BELFAST - Judith Randall Whitney, 77, died on June 8, 2017 at her Belfast home after a long battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 19, 1940, in Brewer, Maine, the oldest child of the late Coleman and Evelyne (Williams) Randall. She grew up in Farmington, Waterville, and Belfast, Maine, and graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast in 1958.

She graduated from Westbrook Junior College in Portland and worked in the Boston and Portland areas before she returned to college to earn degrees from Plymouth State College in New Hampshire and the University of Maine.

She taught in the medical assistant programs at Hesser College in New Hampshire and Thomas College in Waterville; but the career in which she found the greatest fulfillment was that of wife and mother.

In 1975 she married Deane S. Whitney of Cranberry Isles, and they had two children before his untimely death in 1994. In 2002 she married Roger F. Blake of Belfast whom she had known as a teenager, and they moved into the Belfast home that her parents had built in retirement.

She passionately supported the activities and endeavors of her children and grandchildren. She was an active volunteer throughout her life, including her recent involvement with the Hospice and hospital programs in the Belfast area. She loved being on Cranberry Island, picking wild blueberries, and traveling. She enjoyed socializing with old friends and new ones, and she harbored a peculiar affection for chickens.

Judy's love for and her devotion to her family were boundless. She will be deeply missed and warmly remembered and cherished.

She is survived by her son Kenneth S. Whitney of Belfast; her daughter, Ellen Whitney Garvey, MD, and grandsons Jameson Deane Garvey and Ryder William Garvey of Brattleboro, Vermont; her dear friend Roger Blake of Halfmoon Pond, sister-in-law Roberta Randall of Westbrook, nephews and nieces, and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her late husband, her parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Randall, and her stepmother, Georgia Randall.

Visiting hours for family and friends will be held in Belfast at Judy's home, 214 Waterville Road, on Friday, June 16 from 5pm to 7pm. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 17 at 1:30pm, at the Bunker Burying Ground on Great Cranberry Island where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband.
