Obituary for Dorothy "Dottie" Bucklin (Bunker)

Dorothy "Dottie" Bucklin (Bunker)
Trenton -- Dorothy Bucklin died February 22, 2017 at Courtland Rehabilitation & Living Center in Ellsworth. She was born in Lamoine, December 13, 1931 the daughter of Samuel Bunker & Blanche Ida (Chamberlain).

Dorothy was a graduate of Brooksville High School in which she received the Book of Etiquette upon graduation. Her favorite hobbies were: music, sewing, knitting and raising Cocker Spaniels. For many years she found great joy in operating the home of the friendliest cocker spaniels known as Oak Point Kennels. She had a passion for gardening -- especially, fruit trees, flowers, and vegetables. Dorothy loved cooking, baking and serving others.

Dorothy worked many jobs over the years. She worked at Hannaford Supermarkets, worked as a baker, and worked for Coastal Agency to name a few of her many "jobs". She studied real estate and earned her sales and broker's license. She eventually opened her own real estate office - Oak Point Real Estate in Trenton. Dorothy never stopped learning and in retirement she got her CDL License. Dottie did a lot of public service. She helped build the Trenton School, was a selectman, assessor, served on the school board and was overseer of the poor for her beloved hometown. Dottie was a lady ahead of her time. Her work ethic was impeccable.

She loved her husband, Edward, and their many adventures which included traveling, square dancing, and just being together. Her greatest joy was her children. She was proud of each of them for all their own unique talents.

Dorothy had a love of Jesus and was a lifelong believer. Her spirituality always rested with the Holy Father. She neither held grudges nor dwelled on the past. Dottie was unable to work or enjoy her hobbies the last years of her life due to health issues; however, she was able to reside at home with loving care and support. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Dorothy's memory would be greatly appreciated to the SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, ME 04605.

She is survived by her children, Constance Severence, Jan Michael Ryan, and Susan Waite; four stepchildren, Suzanne Cantnese and her family, Belinda Fletcher and her family, Martha Fleck, and Charles Bucklin and his family; 12 grandchildren, Patty Staples, Jan Rossi, Melanie Dutra, Shannon Ryan, William Ryan, Jeremy Ryan, Debbie Ryan, Todd Waite, Samantha Severence, Ashley Ryan, Mariah Ryan, and Christopher Ryan; 12 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
