Gregory Neil Stanley, 69, died November 9, 2016 at home after a 13 month battle with renal cancer; a disease he met head on with grace and humor. He was born January 7, 1947 in Ellsworth to Warren Derby and Dorothy Ruth (Peterson) Stanley.
He was a graduate of Ellsworth High School Class, of '65 and after a brief time at USM he enrolled in the US Coast Guard. He became an Electronic Tech and was stationed in Greenland and Oregon. He was responsible for all the electronic gear on the ships including the radar equipment and the maintenance of several light houses. He attended UMO on the GI Bill and graduated in 1975 with a degree in Business.
He worked Install & Repair for the phone company, was a Child Protective Case Worker & Supervisor for DHS; a salesman for Pella Windows, Sunrise Glass, Mainely Vinyl, and Sinclair Builders. Before his retirement he was a Mortgage Broker. He was the "Equipment & Tool" Chairman of the original JUMP Playground Project.
He loved watching Becca and her teammates playing soccer, basketball, and softball for BEM and EHS. He especially enjoyed going to see Becca race at Speedway 95.
His true passion was GOLF. He loved the game, the camaraderie, the courses, and the challenge. He made 3 Hole-In-Ones over the years.
Greg is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet Arline (Black) Stanley; a daughter, Rebecca Sue Stanley; a very special grandson Brock Everett Blanchard; his sister Warrene Stanley Carriere (Jerry); his brothers Terry Fitch (Debby), Allen Fitch, and Ernest Fitch (Janis); many nieces, nephews, and cousins; foster daughters, Tracy Woodward Jameson and Amanda Auld Brooks; his best "Good Buddy" Jim Pendergist; special friend Thelma Beal; and his dog Winslow. He is predeceased by his father Warren Stanley; step-father, Merritt Fitch; his mother Dorothy Fitch; brother Danny Fitch; sisters-in-law Patty and Joanne Fitch; and nephew Toby Fitch.
Friends may call from 11-12am, Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin Street, Ellsworth with a celebration of Greg’s life at 12 pm. A reception will follow the services. Private burial will be at Village Cemetery, Surry.
