Obituary for Paul Emile Baker

Paul Emile Baker
Salsbury Cove, ME and Riviera Beach, FL

Paul Emile Baker,90, beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, and friend died peacefully in his home on November 4th, 2016.

Paul served our country honorably as a boatswain's mate in the Pacific during World War II. Honorably discharged from the Navy on May 24, 1946, Paul met the woman who would become his wife of 52 years, Agnes Cecile Guimond, just three days later. Together, they made a life in Plainville, MA raising three children and being stalwart members of the community. With his father, Paul spent the next 24 years owning and operating Emile Baker & Son, plastering contractors. As a real estate investor, he built affordable apartments in Plainville which he owns to this day. In 1967, Paul and Agnes purchased Hadley Point Campground in Bar Harbor where he became known for his outgoing personality and witty sayings such as "Keep the plumbing humming." An avid collector of antique and classic cars, Paul was a proud supporter of the Bar Harbor July 4th celebration, reveling in sharing his enthusiasm with the crowds by entering his Model A and Pontiac Chieftain in the annual parade for more than 25 years. January 2000 began a very tough 18 month period with the death of his beloved Agnes followed by the deaths of his daughter, Paulette Paluga, and his grandson, Jefferey Paluga. A bright note occurred in May 2001 when Paul married Helene (Hardy) Fye.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Helene, sons Richard Baker and wife Lisa, Robert Baker and wife Suzanne, stepchildren Russell Fye and wife Christina, Samantha Wallace and husband Lucas, 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two brothers Florent and wife Rosemarie and Ronald Baker and wife Therese, a son-in-law Joseph Paluga and more nieces, nephews, and friends than we can count. Along with his first wife, daughter and grandson he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jane Baker.

Friends and family are invited to visiting hours from 5-7 PM on Friday, November 11th at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main Street, Mt. Desert, ME where services will be held 10 am, Saturday, November 12, 2016 with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paulette Paluga Scholarship Fund at the YWCA, 21 Park Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
