Margaret M.  Bates (Myrick)
Margaret M. Bates, 87, died September 1, 2016 at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. She was born October 2, 1928 in Patten, ME., the daughter of Ira E. and Beatrice Howie (Curry) Myrick.

In the late 60’s she worked at the Shin Pond House for several years in Mt. Chase, ME., and in 1969 moved to MDI and started at the Frenchman’s Bay Motel where she worked for 7 years. She also worked in a variety of retail and restaurants in the Bar Harbor area. She liked to play bridge in Florida 5 days a week. She was a member of the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church in Patten since April 1939 and attended the Bar Harbor Congregational Church.

Margaret is survived by two sons: Kenneth E. Bates and wife, Beth of Patten and David I. Bates of Senoia, Georgia, one daughter, Claudia Collier and husband, Richard of Bar Harbor. Five grandchildren; Todd Bates, Mark Bates and wife Edwina, Kristina Bates-Thomas and husband Tim Thomas, Melissa Devos and husband Peiter, and Carrie Walsh and Chris Walsh, great-grandchildren, Kendra Bryer, Dillan, Camden and Brady Walsh, Trystan and Tarquin Bates; special friends at Harbor Hills Estates and Barefoot Bay Community, FL.

Memorial services will be held 1pm, Saturday September 10, 2016 at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home 1139 Main St Mt.Desert, Maine 04660.
Interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor
