Madeline Florence Carter, 95, died March 25, 2016 at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. She was born July 25, 1920 in Brooklin the daughter of L.Belah and Mary S. (Tainter) Cousins.

Madeline loved children and to cook so after her own children were grown she worked as a cook in the cafeteria at the Brooklin and Sedgwick public schools. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ellsworth. Madeline enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She literally made 100’s of pairs of mittens and hats for the many children, teachers and friends she came in contact with.

Madeline is survived by 2 daughters: June Allen and husband, Isaac, of Sedgwick and Donna Treadwell and husband, Allen, Hermon; 7 grandchildren, Donna Mions, Lisa Harding, Daniel Lord, Miriam Hawley and Benjamin, James and Andrew Allen; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, a niece, Roberta Allen and brother-in-law, Russell Carter and wife Agnes. She was predeceased by her husband Mahlon L. Carter and a sister Fosta Staples.

Friends are invited to call 5-7 pm, Monday, March 28, 2016 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin Street, Ellsworth. Funeral Services will be held 10 am, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 50 School Street, Ellsworth with Rev. Barry Blackstone presiding. Spring interment will be at Brooklin Cemetery, Brooklin.

In lieu of flowers those who desire may make contributions in Madeline’s memory to the Emmanuel Baptist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
