Obituary for Gerald W. Norwood Jr.

Otter Creek
Gerald W. Norwood, Jr., died July 14, 2014 in Bar Harbor. He was born March 4, 1940 in Bar Harbor, the son of GeraldWeston, Sr. and Arlene Ethel (Hooper) Norwood.
Gerald attended schools in Bar Harbor and served in the US Marines. He held many jobs all over the island throughout the years. From caretaking of summer estates, working at the Jackson Lab, and managing the Otter Creek Market. His love of the water brought him back to his last one of lobstering on the “Cricker”. His greatest joy was raising kids in a village with other parents in Otter Creek. He enjoyed deep meaningful conversations, genealogy, theology, woodworking, reading, writing stories, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, bird watching, his cats, and sharing his love of life with his wife. He dedicated many years to being the coach to many Farm Leagues and Little Leagues teams. He was also the Scout Master for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed taking many a child on an adventure earning badges or having a great baseball team. Jerry was a member of the Odd Fellows, NRA, Maine Lobstering Association, Otter Creek Aid Society, and the Bar Harbor Historical Society. He was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in 2011.
He is survived by his wife Anne (Spratt) of Otter Creek; sons, Gerald “Jay’ W. Norwood, III and wife Debbie of McComb, MS, Kenneth E. Norwood of Otter Creek, and Dwight A. Norwood and wife Melissa of Ellsworth; daughter, Sandra N. McGarry and husband William of Lancaster, SC; stepsons, Shawn Abbott and wife Chrissie of Columbia, Patrick Abbott and wife Lisa of CA; stepdaughter, Eden Abbott and partner, Jonathan Mitchell; grandchildren; Lucy, Ashley, Matthew, Damian, Nicole, Crystal, Dylan, Brandy, Kenneth, Brittany, Diane, Jennifer, Timothy, Natasha, Mark, Eric, Megan, Patrick, and Ryanne; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara N. Crowley and husband Paul; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Charles and Leslie Norwood and Jack Cloney; sisters, Althea Lunn, Beatrice Doucette and Georgia Walls.
At Gerald’s request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Otter Creek Hall.
