Winter Harbor -- Larry walked through the garden into the arms of Jesus, September 03, 2018 while residing almost 2 years with care from Narraguagus Bay Healthcare Facility. Larry was born August 31, 1939 in West Bay, the son of Esther and Woodrow Smith, they had a brief marriage. Esther remarried to Walter Coombs and Larry was raised in Winter Harbor.

Larry attended and anxiously left Sumner High School to pursue a career in construction with Alvin Whitten. Larry loaded dump trucks by hand, did mechanic work, welding, truck driving until finding his comfort and niche in the seat of a bulldozer.

Larry had another dream; to marry and raise a family. His eyes and attention focused on Ann Workman. He convinced her to toss aside her plans as a hairdresser to marry him, and she did on July 18, 1959. Together they raised a family and took in anyone who needed a meal, to an extended place to stay. Too many to count were blessed by their hospitality and generosity.

Larry had another dream of lobster fishing. He came home one day in 1967 and announced his plan. He bought a boat and for 40 years enjoyed catching lobster, dragging for fish, shrimp, scallops, quahogs, making his own dragging gear, repairing, selling and helping finish off boats in his garage.
In the latter years Larry and Ann enjoyed wintering with family and friends in Lakeland, Florida and building their retirement lakeside retreat on Graham Lake. Alzheimer's disease started chipping away at Larry and forcing this dream to end. Soon after their lakeside home was sold, Ann unexpectedly passed on March 30, 2014.

Larry is predeceased by his mother Esther Coombs and step-father Walter Coombs; father Woodrow Smith and step-mother Mary Smith; great grandson, Seth Tracey; and son-in-law, John Andress. Larry is survived by daughters, Lori Andress of Bay Minette, Alabama, Lisa Tracey of Gouldsboro, Melaney Lundy of Theodoere, Alabama; son, Larry E. Smith, Jr and wife, Karen of Winter Harbor; grandchildren, Kristy Tracey and husband Troy, Lori Rainer and husband Billy, Josh Timmons and wife Nancy, Andrew Smith and wife Ashley, Mark Smith and wife Cheyenne, Lee Smith and fiance' Michaela, Ashley and husband Josh, Brandon and wife Kasey, Kayla Johnson and fiancé Raymond, and Kyle Depew; great- grandchildren, Tristan, Brooke, Adam, Caroline, Finn, Clara, Connor, Annabelle, Collin, Kowen, Isaac, Madison, Jason, Cora, Malachi, Kenzie, and Masyn; sisters, Barbara Attmeter and husband Jim of Bradenton, Florida, Cathy Witham and husband Arthur of Sebring, Florida; brothers, Guy Coombs and wife Gail of Sullivan, and Billy Coombs and wife, Narda of Clifton.
