Winter Harbor -- Eugene (Gene) Kelley, 81, died after a short illness, May 31, 2018 at Narraguagus Bay Healthcare Facility. He was born in Prospect Harbor, October 19, 1936 the son of Charles E. and Marguerite H. (Leighton) Kelley.

Gene graduated from Sumner Memorial High School, class of 1955. After graduation he served in the US Army, active and reserves from 1956-1963. When returning home, he met and married Gladys Tibbetts on September 9, 1960.

Gene loved spending time with his family; yearly camping vacations and in later years leasing a lot on Spring River Lake where he created many happy memories with his grandchildren. Saturday nights were spent having lively and competitive card games and to the drive-in to watch Walt Disney movies. Gene embraced life and loved people.

He was active in his community. He was a member of the Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Gouldsboro Volunteer Fire Dept., Prospect Harbor Knights of Pythias Lodge, Winter Harbor Masonic Lodge and Anah Temple Shrine serving the Flag Unit.

Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys; son, Kevin Kelley and wife Cristy of Aurora, CO; daughter, Karen Smith and husband Larry of Winter Harbor; 5 grandchildren, Christlyn Rains, Clifford Kelley, Andrew Smith and wife Ashley, Mark Smith and wife Cheyenne and Lee Smith and finance Kayla; 7 great-grandchildren, Ahtumn, Wynter, Connor, Annabelle, Collin, Kowen and Isaac; sister, Norma Murray; niece, Susan Soper both of Prospect Harbor. He was predeceased by his parents; and infant son, Keith, in 1967.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 PM, June 23, 2018 at the Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church, 57 Main Street, Prospect Harbor, with Pastor Bernie Hammond officiating.
