Obituary for Nancy May Reed

Nancy May Reed
Nancy May Reed, of Southwest Harbor, peacefully drifted away, on April 14, 2018. She was born August 3, 1939, to Ralph and Eva (Thurston) Reed. Though small in stature, Nancy's love and caring for others was huge. She shared her musical gift as a pianist by playing for weddings and funerals, whenever asked. She, also helped many students with typing term papers, but she wrote long hand, beautiful letters to local serviceman representing our country near and far.

Nancy grew up in the town she loved, Southwest Harbor and attended Pemetic High School, graduating in 1957. Walking around the corner from school, she got her 1st job at L. S. Robinson Real Estate and Insurance Company, as a secretary. Continuing education, made insurance her career and she retired 52 years, later. During this time she made many life-long friends and acquaintances.

Caring for her parents, family and friends, was a big part of Nancy's life. She always made birthdays extra special by bringing a 'bag present', to siblings of the birthday child, spent hours playing games, cutting out paper dolls or treating all the children that visited, to snacks that she had made or purchased especially for them. Sitting beside her on the piano bench, while she either taught or just played for a sing-a-long, was a wonderful experience. Transporting, her dad and mom, later in life, even, including taking her dad to basketball games, she did gladly.

Enjoying retirement, she went to every Danny Harper Concert, sitting right up front. She made even more friends, through the great gigs and travels, with Danny. She was happily, surprised with a personal concert from Danny, while she resided at Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center.

In her travels, around her part of Maine, Nancy met so many people with which she loved to talk and joke (she loved a good joke), that there is no way to know all the names that should be mentioned. Please feel free to go to the on-line condolences page for Nancy at www.jordanfernald.com and leave your name with a story about how you became acquainted with Nancy, it would be greatly appreciated.
