Lamoine -- David Sanderson, of Lamoine, Maine, died unexpectedly on April 3, 2018. He was born to John and Pearl Sanderson June 23, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri. He received a Master’s Degree in English from Johns Hopkins, and PhD in English Romanticism from UC Davis. David was an organizational consultant whose career in higher and secondary education also included college teaching, school administration, organizational leadership and staff development in the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. Since 1986 he worked as an independent consultant in the fields of organizational change, strategic planning, conflict and diversity management, and coalition building. His clients included school districts, healthcare organizations, Native American tribes, colleges, universities, and government agencies.

He was blessed with a life-long relationship with his wife Diane that began as high school sweethearts. After living in numerous parts of the country, they settled in Lamoine, Maine where they raised their four children.

David loved reading, writing, poetry, being outdoors, and camping. He enjoyed cooking, building, woodworking and making things he could share with friends and family. He loved Maine, particularly Downeast and Acadia, and will be missed by a wide group of friends in the local community. He was deeply involved in Lamoine Community Arts. In addition to acting in many plays, he served on the LCA board. David served the Town of Lamoine on its Planning Board and on the Conservation Commission, where he was particularly passionate about preserving the natural beauty of the area.

He donated time and energy to many organizations and individuals, including the Abbe Museum, Frenchman’s Bay Conservancy, and the WHCA (Washington Hancock County Community Action). David earned a PhD. In English literature early in his career and, later, turned his talents and affection for the humanities to serving for many years on the Editorial Board of the Beloit Poetry Journal.

David was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and friend. He touched the hearts and lives of many, working hard to make the world a better place, and to create harmony, peace, and laughter. He will be fondly remembered by his beloved wife Diane, four children and 8 grandchildren. There will be a gathering of friends at the Lamoine Grange at 2 pm on Sunday, April 8th.
