Obituary for Gary R. Tyler

Gary R.  Tyler
Gary R. Tyler, 82, died March 10, 2018 at MDI Hospital. He was born July 9, 1935 in Lubec, the son of Cecil K. and Queenie (Rice) Tyler.

Gary served in the US Army from 1962-1964. After he was honorably discharged he went to work at the Asticou for several years, before going to work at the Mt. Desert Elementary School as a custodian. He retired after 30 years of service.

Gary was an active outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was known for his carving and received many awards.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years. Joan E. (Rice) Tyler; 2 children, Sally Hulme and husband Tony of West Simsbury Ct. and Jonathan Tyler of Goose Creek, South Carolina: 5 grandchildren; Samantha, Emily and Trey Hume, Riaz and Jalal Tyler; and 1 niece. Gary was predeceased by his brother, Arthur C. Rice.

At Gary’s request there will be no services. There will be a private spring interment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
