Luere (Lue) Deasy Hodgkins Glover, 75, quietly passed away on February 23, 2018 after bravely facing cancer the past year. Luere was born on July 23, 1942 in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Luere’s unique name came from her great grandfather, Luere Babson Deasy, founder of the Bar Harbor Bank and Trust and Chief Justice Maine Supreme Judicial Court. She graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1960. She earned an associate’s degree at Husson College, Bangor in 1963. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration from Park College, Missouri 1992.

Luere had a long distinguished career as a Civil Servant in the United States Air Force. She began working as a clerk typist at the Defense Contracting and Audit Agency in Bath, in 1976. A few years later, she moved to Dayton, Ohio and continued her service at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base until retirement in 2003. She successfully advanced to the position of a Senior Contract Negotiator with a focused area of weaponry systems. Luere worked on large contracts for the Air Force. She started with the F-15 Eagle then later worked on the B-1 Lancer bomber, B-2 Stealth Bomber, and the C-5 Galaxy military transport. Throughout Luere’s career she earned numerous awards from her exceptional dedication and ability. She was particularly proud of the Air Force Association Team of the Year Individual award, Professional Civilian of the Quarter March 1999, being picked as a member of the Inaugural Contract Process Steering Committee and ultimately receiving the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award for her accomplishments as a civil service employee with the Department of Defense.

Luere was a homemaker prior to her successful professional career. She raised three children. She volunteered at the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, participated in various Naval Wives functions and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Luere achieved the honor of a Life Master in the American League of Contract Bridge and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Luere was not only an avid bridge player, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bicycling, tending to her plants and traveled extensively throughout her life. She loved her kitties and had cats most of her life. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family playing games with her children and grandchildren.

Luere is survived by her beloved three children and five grandchildren: son, Peter B. York and wife Jill and sons Bailey and Wesley of Naperville, IL; son James A York, MD of Hattisburg, MS and the children’s mother, Karen York and twin daughters Hannah and Rachel; daughter, Sara A. York Drees and husband Dennis and daughter Margaret of Hoffman Estates, IL; and three sisters, Mary Hodgkins Banfield and family of Bangor, Katherine Hodgkins McMullen and family, Fairhaven, MA and Rebecca Hodgkins Jordan and family of Bar Harbor. Luere was predeceased by her parents, Robert F. and Fredonna Bunker Reynolds Hodgkins, oldest sister Geraldine Hodgkins Linscott, brother Robert F. Hodgkins, Jr and former husband Elihu York, MD., MPH.

Visitation will be from 4-6pm, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main Street, Mount Desert. A service of remembrance will be held 10am, Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, 29 Mount Desert St. (on the Village Green), Bar Harbor.
