Condolence: Our sincere condolences to you, John and your family. Our last reunion with Abbey was in June 2017. I met Abbey since 1991, Rene and Abbey calls me Godchild. Abbey was a very supportive person. Always so alive, full of energy, funny, sweet, kind and lots of stories to share. My family are very sad to hear of Abbey's passing. We are also very blessed to have spent a couple of hours with her back in June 2017. My kids got to meet Abbey and she showed them her John Deere Lawn mover, which the boys had a great time. We all miss Abbey, she is a person with a BIG heart, and she always look at you with those kind and loving eyes that makes you feel very special. She will always be a part of our me and my family. Rest in peace and God bless you. Danny & Amanda Hy

Condolence: Extending our condolences to you, John, and all the family. Abbey and I shared a common interest in genealogy. I had no idea who she was when we got a 'Hoffman' genealogy request from California about 30 years ago. We corresponded at Xmas every year until we lost touch when she and Renee retired to Maine. Aunt Sylvia got us back in touch right before we were headed up to Maine for a family reunion. Your Mom and Renee were so gracious and put us up for a night. We stayed up into the wee hours sharing our info. I had actually just finished a thorough documentation of the 'Hoffman line' of our family tree and was planning to send her my update when I saw the news in another tree. I'll miss her a great deal. I hope that we have a chance to meet sometime. Love, Larry and Sally Less

Condolence: My husband and I spent 4 days on a schooner cruise with Abbey in September of 2014. I had not met her before. In those four days I feel madly in love with her! She was funny, whimsical, told great stories, shared the love and loss of her husband and bound our crew together with games, music and light.
We have written each other over the years with promises of being together again one day.
Shortly after Thanksgiving, we had a plan. Gene and I would come see her this August. I wrote giving her the dates, not realizing she had passed. Today I googled her and saw my fears were true in finding her obituary. She will be a part of me forever. What a special woman and cherished friend!22

Condolence: Abbey was such a life force. I was fortunate to have been her physician and to have cared for Rene as well through his terrible illness. She was so spirited and playful, and someone whom I shall never forget. May she rest in a well deserved peace with her beloved husband, although I cannot really imagine this wonderfully energized being resting!!

Condolence:
We will remember that raucous laugh and enthusiastic hand waving that enlivened garden club meetings and field trips. We will miss seeing her pick up truck filled with her generous donations of plants for our fundraisers, and her paint spattered overalls as she pitched in to help with anything that needed to be done. Her raspberry salads were always a hit at our luncheons, as well as her generosity in letting friends pick pears or elderberry blossoms or just enjoy the beautiful view across the fields with the dogs. Vibrant, vivacious, and a beautiful individual, Abbey will be missed by many.

Condolence: John, my love... There are so few comforting words when we need them most. The passing of the one who first introduced us to this planet and who loved us along its paths is never easy. Your mother Carol "Abbey" was an amazing woman who adored and loved you so very much. I am blessed to have met her and will cherish the wonderful memories we shared. She will be in your heart always! And I will do my best to honor her request to keep an eye on her beloved son... I am deeply sorry for your loss, I love you!!!

Condolence: I only knew Abbey for a brief period, but I was immediately drawn to her wit, intelligence and zest for life. She let me come pick pears from her trees..in fact, she was the one who was whacking them down with great expertise and enthusiasm! She was a wonderful supporter of local events and clubs, especially anything to do with gardens :-) She will be missed and I think she would appreciate being remembered as a vibrant, accomplished, bright woman..all adjectives that bring her clearly to mind.

Condolence: My Mother gave this world joy, laughter, and wit. She was always a giver to those in need, never a taker. I will miss her advice and work ethic. She taught me so much and I am so lucky to be her Son. I love and miss my Mom.
