Stephen Howard Moon, DMD, 65, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 4, 2018. He was born in Bar Harbor, November 21,1951, the son of Robert and Madeline Moon.

Steve graduated from MDIHS in Bar Harbor in 1970. He went on to attend UMaine Bangor the next year to complete an Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He followed this with a Pre-Med program and received a BA in Zoology at UMaine Orono. He completed post graduate courses in Lab Techniques & Histology and Business Communications as well as holding regional responsibility for WellCare of New England, a Health Maintenance Organization. In 1988 he was selected to participate in a Dentistry program at Tufts University and was appointed in his second year to be Chairman to the National Boards Review Committee. In his Junior and Senior years, he was elected as National Student liaison to the ADA’s Committee on Dental Care and Therapeutics.

Steve was a world traveler, working as a foreign businessman in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, North Africa, Greece, France and Switzerland. He began his Dentistry career in 1992 working with C.S. Maller, D.M.D., F.A.S.D.A. in Bar Harbor and went on to work as director of dental services at the Harrington Family Health Center, and provided much needed healthcare to an economically deprived population. He continued his career working with Dean Booher, D.D.S at 3 High St. in Bar Harbor and would ultimately become the beloved owner and sole Dentist at High Street Dental with an amazing staff, whom he treasured.

Steve was an avid outdoorsmen who loved to walk, get lost in nature, and most profoundly, to camp with his family and take long drives with his wife. He was an extremely intelligent man who could build, fix, or engineer just about anything. He loved the simple things in life. Most importantly, being home, playing cribbage, mowing the lawn, and tinkering in his garage.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 22 years, Roxanne Beth (Gray) Moon of Bar Harbor; four children, Christina Moon of Pennsylvania, Molly Anne Moon of Bar Harbor, Amy Cameron and partner Alex of Bar Harbor, and Jesse Cameron and wife, Ann and children Leao and Treyan of Mount Desert. Steve will be greatly missed by his three sisters Joyce Ebersole, Karen Malone, Gail Wright and their spouses and children; and by brother in-laws Wayne Gray and John Gray, and mother in-law Bea Gray and friend Charley Crathren, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Steve was quiet but truly aimed and touched many people’s lives, both the patient’s he saw and his beloved family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor on Ledgelawn Avenue and officiated together by Pastor Scott Records and Pastor Bob Maddocks.

The family suggests that friends desiring to contribute in some way make a donation to the Dr. Stephen Moon Scholarship Fund to assist students pursuing a career in Dentistry. Donations can be sent to The First National Bank of Bar Harbor. He will be forever loved and wonderfully missed by all those whom he loved and loved him in return.
