Obituary for John Maurice "Dan" Danielson Jr.

John Maurice "Dan"  Danielson Jr.
John Maurice Danielson (Dan) 94, passed away November 27th at the Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. He was born March 23, 1923 to John and Emma (Wagner) Danielson in Chicago, IL.

He graduated from Moose High School, class of '41. After high school, he was employed at a printing press company and then joined the Army Air Corps in 1942.

In 1945, he married Corinne LeBahn and had 2 children, Barbara born in 1947 and Terry in 1951. During this time he was employed at the Western Electric Co. When Barbara was 2 years old, the family moved to Tampa, FL. His first job there was as a housing contractor. Then in 1959, he became employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 24 yrs.

Dan was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, loved to fish on the Fox River, was artistic and a life long Lutheran.

In 1981, he met his future wife, Shirley, married her in '84 and lived a joy and love filled life with her for almost 34 yrs. They moved to Blue Hill, ME in 2006 to be close to family. Since moving to Maine, he joined the American Legion, Post 85, became a member of the Penobscot United Methodist Church and enjoyed life at the Friendship Cottage. Some people remember his "Pride and Joy" cards that he passed out.

Survivors include his wife Shirley, granddaughters Helena, Mariah and Desiree of SD, grandson Daniel of FL, several great grandchildren, stepdaughter Joan and husband Ed of Penobscot, step- granddaughters, Ariana and partner Josh, Heather and partner James, 3 step-grandsons, Jeremiah, Jarod and Joshua Alley of NY and NJ and 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He leaves behind many friends in FL and those he made here in Maine.

He was predeceased by his parents, 1st wife Corinne, daughter Barbara, son Terry, granddaughter Terry-Ellen, grandson John, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and stepson Kevin.

The family wants to thank Friendship Cottage, Hancock County Home Care and Hospice and especially the Island Nursing Home for their tender loving care of Dan throughout the years.

He will always be remembered as an old fashioned gentleman, for his sense of humor and kindness and respect for others.

Celebration of his life will be held Friday, December 15th at 1 pm at the Penobscot United Methodist Church, Pastor Deanna West officiating.
