Obituary for Harriet B. Burnham

Harriet Louise (Barnard) Burnham, 89, died November 13, 2017 in Bar Harbor. She was born October 9, 1928 in Bloomfield, CT., the daughter of Raymond Harrison and Martha (Miller) Barnard. Harriet grew up in Bloomfield, CT on “Wintonbury Farm” with her siblings and large extended family. She married Dwight A. Burnham in 1952 and together they were active in the Wintonbury Historical Society and the Bloomfield Congregational Church. She worked with the church’s catering group and organized many dinners for holidays and celebrations. She was employed by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.

Harriet moved between Florida and Lake Hortonia, Vermont for many years and enjoyed the company of her family at the lake before settling in Bar Harbor in 2007.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Cyr) of Noank, CT., her children: Amy Pollien and husband, Robert of Bar Harbor, Douglas and wife Phyllis Smith of Middlebury, Vermont and Raymond and wife Diane Audet of Orwell, Vermont. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Dwight and two siblings, Cynthia and Harrison.

At her request, a small private service will be held for immediate family only. Donations may be made to the Bar Harbor Food Pantry, Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County or Wintonbury Historical Society. Cards may be sent to the family at PO Box 658, Mt. Desert, ME 04660.
