Obituary for Gertrude G. Fowler (Butler)

Bangor -- Gertrude G. Fowler, 92, died November 12, 2017 in Bangor. She was born in Tremont, April 22, 1925 the daughter of Frederick E. and Virgelia (Swazey) Butler.

She attended Pemetic schools in Southwest Harbor and following graduation she met and married Stanley Fowler and they spent the next 65 years together. She worked as a switchboard operator for many years, worked at making ammunition crates during WWII and worked at various retail stores around Ellsworth. She was the foundation of her family and will be missed by everyone. Gertrude enjoyed shopping, painting with acrylics, and her rides in her 1964 Mustang convertible. She was a member and taught Sunday school at the Maine Baptist Church, she was a life member of the Eastern Star Irene Chapter O.E.S., and member of the New England Telephone Pioneers.

She is survived by sons, Gerald Fowler and wife Marcia of Michigan, Stanley Fowler and wife Shelia of Washington state; daughter, Trudy Fowler of Bangor; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Phil and Becky Rossi of Ellsworth, Roy Carter of Bangor, Megan Gray of Kenduskeag, and Karen Bennett of Dedham. She was predeceased by her husband; sisters, Leona Murphy, Carrie Atcherson-Reed, Clorette Closson; and brother, Fredrick (Bubba) Butler.
