Obituary for Irving Edward Wilbur

Irving Edward Wilbur
Waltham -- Irving Edward Wilbur, 79, within an inch of 80, son of the late Walter Everard and Lillian Earle (Giles) Wilbur, born November 15, 1937 Eastbrook, Maine, died October 29, 2017 at his home in Waltham with family at his side.

He attended Eastbrook and Waltham schools, graduating from Ellsworth High School in the Class of 1956.

After graduation he worked for H. B. Moore and the Lane Construction. His proudest accomplishment with Lane was spreading the concrete at Andrew’s Air Force Base. He would always point this out when video of the President of The United States disembarking Air Force One would be shown on the evening news. Irving, Ray Foss and Harvey Jordan owned a race car in the 60s. Harvey was the mechanic and Louie Santerre was the driver. The Crash Orange 44 was a fast car and won lots of races at the Graham Lake Speed Bowl. Irving became Assistant Boy Scout Leader when Dave Seward came to town. There were lots of camping trips and on one of these trips Irving climbed to the top of Katahdin, a great feat for a man who was scared of heights. It was during the next years that Jr. Springer came into our family. Irving needed an equipment operator and Jr. was just the person for the job. They built roads for Patten Corporation, St. Regis and Champion. Irving sponsored many men and women’s softball teams over the years and they weren’t good teams, they were great teams, winning lots of tournaments and trophies, bringing lots of enjoyment to Irving and Juanita. This brought Ron Turtolotte to them, he was a great coach and friend to Irving and Juanita.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita (Walker) Wilbur, of Waltham; children, Joey Wilbur and his wife, Methel, of Eastbrook, Wally Wilbur and Veronica Boyington of Waldoboro, Julie Curtis and her husband, Christopher, of Eastbrook, John Wilbur and his wife, Anne, of Deland, Florida; grandchildren, Justin Rowell, Zachary Jordan and Courtney Hall, Jessica DeWitt and Jason Crossman, Jarad Wilbur and his wife Juliette, Erica, Charlene Wilbur and Chris Hilton, Dillon Wilbur, Chance Curtis, Blake Curtis and Kyle Clark, Erin Brosseau and Kelley Wilbur; many great grandchildren; a stepsister, Sylvia Frost; a stepbrother, Edward Young of Franklin; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Lesley Randall and Natalie Hardison; his stepmother, Nina Wilbur; his stepbrothers, Dana and Bernard Young.

Calling hours will be held 5:00-7:00, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Saturday. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Eastbrook.
