Obituary for Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Brown (Perry)

Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Brown (Perry)
Castine -- Elizabeth Ann (Perry) Brown, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on September 16, 2017. Elizabeth was born and raised in Bar Harbor; she was the only child of Hildreth (MacQuinn) and Willis Perry.

She married her handsome beau, Edward Brown of Northeast Harbor sixty four years ago on August 9, 1953 at St. Savior’s Rectory in Bar Harbor. Edwards’s seafaring career brought them to Barcelona, Spain where they lived for a year before settling in Castine. Together, they raised their four daughters. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, traveling to visit Edward at Maine Maritime cruise destinations, knitting beautiful sweaters, blankets and ‘crazy’ socks for her loves, reading, and time spent with her family and friends. Known as the family matriarch, she will forever be remembered for her red lipstick, immaculate dress, and impeccable style, regardless of occasion.

Elizabeth, also known as Betty, Mumma, Mummy, Nan, and Nana, is survived by her loving and doting husband, Edward; her four daughters, Janet Boyle of Bucksport, Judith (Michael) Marzolf of Castine, Jane (Alan) Joseph of Northeast Harbor, and Julie (Aaron) Vinson of Brewer. In addition to her husband and daughters and son-in-laws, she leaves behind her eight grandchildren, Erin Boyle, Amanda Starbird, Jennifer Marzolf, Christopher Marzolf, Andrew Joseph, Kate Joseph, John Joseph, Nicholas Vinson; three great-grandsons; and Barbara Marzolf, a very special lady who was always like a daughter to her. She also leaves her brother-in-law, Buddy and wife Becky of Northeast Harbor. She was predeceased by her parents; and a special son-in-law, John Boyle.

Special heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Chelsea, Kelly, and Sally for their devotion and love they gave her and continue to give to our family, and to the Hospice staff members, Jan and Joyce, who were so caring and kind in her last months with us.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, September 21, 2017 at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Avenue, Ellsworth 04605

Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 49 Main St. Blue Hill.
