The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Richard Dudman can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

A man of integrity, truly inspiring

I had the pleasure and good fortune of working as News Director for Richard and Helen at WWMJ FM/WDEA AM in Ellsworth.  It was a memorable time because I worked for two people of the highest integrity and journalistic standards.

Richard taught me the tools of the trade for being a top-rate reporter, first among them, to get to know the people you are coverning by having face-to-face conversations.   He knew that the best stories could be had by checking the police blotter daily, stopping in to Dick's diner for a cup of coffee or visiting Thelma to buy her fish.  Richard's standards were high:  doublecheck sources, cite references and follow E.B. White's creed of saying more by saying less.

Richard relished having the story first and took special delight in features including the story about the homeowner nearby who grew up in the Netherlands and planted tulips as his front lawn instead of grass.

I will miss Richard's humor, enthusiasm and encouragement.  He will always have a special place in my heart, along with Helen, for all they did to set me on a career path which has brought me much happiness and appreciation for all the good people who are striving to do right by the public in their positions as journalists or public servants.

Sincerely,

Jacque Goddard
