Obituary for Russell "Russ" Boynton

Russell "Russ"  Boynton
Lamoine -- Russell “Russ” Boynton, 83, died, July 11, 2017 at his home after a brief illness. He was born July 31, 1933 in Eastham, MA., the son of the late Jerome and Addie C. (Ryder) Boynton.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School class of 1951 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Maine, Machias. Russ served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. His first teaching job was in Liberty and then at Surry Grammar School serving as principal and coaching basketball and baseball. He went on to teach and coach at Ellsworth and Sumner High Schools. He coached at GSA and EMMC. He retired in the 1980’s. He still refereed basketball until ill health forced him to retire. Russell enjoyed digging worms, clamming, and hunting in the Maine woods with his special friend John Shoppe. He also loved to bet on the horse races.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doreen; children, Mark Beede and wife Cleo of Honolulu, HI., Brenda Jones of Lamoine, Lynda Sperry and husband Jim of Lamoine, Rhonda Boynton and fiance Herb Lewis of Lamoine, Rusty Boynton of Lamoine, Donna Crawford and husband Glenn of Lamoine; brother, Harold “Bubby” Boynton and wife Nancy of Lamoine; sister, Joanne Lambdin and partner Joe of Lamoine; grandchildren, Anne Beede and husband Robert Busan, Taylor Jones, Morgaen Jones, Miles McIntire, Miranda McIntire and partner Will Hamor, Michael Garrity and wife Cecilia, Marissa Boynton, Malerie Lockhart, and Cameron Crawford; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Imogen, Briella, Elianna, Alyvia, Owen, Riya, and Raelyn; in-laws, Evelyn Farrell and partner Albert Chapman, Enid and Bill Neleski, and Robert and Linda Madrell; many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his special feline friend, Cosmo. He was predeceased by sisters, Nancy Jordan and Dorothy Harvey.

Calling hours will be held 5:00-7:00 July 18, 2017, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a memorial service will be held 1:00 pm, July 19th with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating.

Family requests contributions in Russ’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
