Obituary for Anne Mandell (Middlesworth)

Anne Mandell (Middlesworth)
Anne (Middlesworth) Mandell, 82, died May 19, 2017 at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Barrington, Rhode Island. She died peacefully surrounded by her loving son, daughter and son-in-law shortly after suffering the loss of her husband of 58 years Edward J. Mandell, Jr. Anne was born on February 22, 1935 in Englewood, NJ and was the daughter of George and Ruth (Middleton) Middlesworth.

Anne graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School. She was a homemaker for several years with three young children. She subsequently worked at Mt. Desert Island High School for 27 years, starting as a teacher’s assistant and eventually becoming an administrative assistant in the front office. Anne was the lady in the front office that students checked in with when tardy or on route to the Principal’s office. Anne had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She loved spending time with her husband, family and friends especially while boating. In her retirement she enjoyed doing cross word puzzles, gardening and bird watching. She adored her grandchildren and enthusiastically attended their plays and sporting events.

Anne is survived by her daughter, Jean Mandell and husband James M. Valles, Jr. of Barrington, Rhode Island; two sons, Edward J. Mandell III and wife, Jeralyn of Toledo, Oregon, and Michael Mandell and his husband Richards Federle of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren, Matthew and William Mandell Valles and Kiya Lair as well as several nieces and nephews and close family friends.

A Memorial Mass and burial at Seal Harbor Cemetery will be private. A public reception to celebrate Anne’s life will be held 12 noon, September 2, 2017 at The Neighborhood House, 1 Kimball Rd., Northeast Harbor, ME.

Those who desire may make contributions in Anne’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
