Obituary for Walton T. McFarland Jr.

Walton T.  McFarland Jr.
Lamoine -- Walton T. McFarland, Jr., 87, passed away at his home March 20, 2017. He was born in Blue Hill, February 6, 1930 the son of Walton T. and Marion M. (Day) McFarland, Sr.

Walt graduated from Bar Harbor High School, class of 1947. He worked for Strattons & Morrison Chevrolet and then C.K. Foster for 43 years as bookkeeper, manager and sales as well. On December 02, 1967, Walt and Marion opened the Giant Sub Shop which he was working at up until his death.

He enjoyed riding in his grandfather’s 1929 Model A which was in last years Christmas parade. He had many hobbies which included working, braiding rugs, keeping track of the weather and collecting antique tin containers.

Walt was treasurer and member of the Lamoine Historical Society and served 50 years as Chairman of the Deacons of the Lamoine Baptist Church. He and Marion worked on the Lamoine Veterans Memorial plus the 125th Anniversary for the Town of Lamoine.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marion; son, Gary McFarland and wife Debbie; daughter, Jean Donovan and husband Roland; and will be sadly missed by his feline friends, Buddy and Spot all of Lamoine; brother-in-law, Lloyd Sawyer; nephews, Wayne Sawyer and wife Meg, Thomas Sawyer, Bruce Sawyer and wife Meg, Paul Hamor and wife Michelle; grand-nephews, Nathan Sawyer and Jordan Banton; and grand-nieces, Karis Sawyer, Kristen Sawyer, Sophie Hamor and Brynnli Sawyer. He was predeceased by his sister, Dolores Sawyer.

Calling hours will be held 5:00-7:00, March 25, 2017 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth. A funeral service will be held 2:00, March 26th at the Lamoine Baptist Church.
