Obituary for George M. Jellison Sr.

George M. Jellison Sr.
Seawall -- George M. Jellison Sr., 84, passed away on March 17, 2017 at a Bangor healthcare facility, with his children by his side. George was born January 16, 1933 in Seawall, the son of Linwood M. and Edna M. (Dolliver) Jellison. He graduated from Pemetic high school in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army.

When he returned to Southwest Harbor he began his long career as an electrician. He worked for himself and his father early in his career and sold and repaired many early televisions for his customers and friends. The most enjoyable part of his working years were the 30 years he worked with his friends as a civilian worker for the U.S. Coast Guard until his retirement in 1996. During this time, he spent many hours on the lighthouses on the coast of Maine as they were automating them in the 70’s and 80’s. After retirement, he continued to do electrical work for many of the local people, but at his own pace and kept his license active until recently. He also had a passion for fishing his 14 lobster traps and hauling them by hand from his skiff. He truly enjoyed fishing Somes Sound for over 40 years and the final nine years in the Western Way until the fall of 2015. He was a devoted fan of the local high school basketball teams and rarely missed a home game throughout his life.

George is survived by his daughter, Aimee B. Williams and her husband, Paul of Seawall and a son, George M. Jellison, Jr. and his partner, Anna Silver of Manset. Grandsons; Christopher Blanchette, Michael Williams, Gregory Williams and Ian Jellison, four great-grandchildren and Ruth Jellison. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, A. Nancy (Jellison) Ramella and Edna M. Jellison.

Services will be private. Contributions in George’s memory may be made to the Southwest Harbor Historical Society, PO Box 272, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
