Obituary for Sharon Lee Blake

Sharon Lee Blake
Blue Hill -- Sharon Lee Blake, 78, wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to many, passed away March 4, 2017 in Blue Hill.

Sharon was a 1960 Biological Science graduate from San Jose State College, with honors in Chemistry. She then attended graduate school in Berkeley and the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. After marrying, she moved to Mount Desert Island where she was employed by the Jackson Laboratory and became a long time resident of Hulls Cove. In later years, she also worked as a Research Associate at the University of Maine in Orono and became a major advocate for women in the sciences.

She grew to love MDI with its carriage trails, cross country skiing and fishing opportunities. She also loved to take her daughters up to Baxter State Park to fish and climb Mt. Katahdin. Some of her happiest moments were sitting by the campfire at Daicey Pond or enjoying popovers with her granddaughter Sarah.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Lynn of Pacifica, CA and Jennifer Leigh of Blue Hill; granddaughter, Sarah Eda of Colorado; as well as former husband and long time friend, Dr. Robert L. Blake of Ellsworth.

Friends of the family are invited to attend a celebration of her life, March 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM, at 63 Parker Ridge Lane, The Inn at Parker Ridge, Blue Hill.
