Obituary for Dolores Pauline Sawyer (McFarland)

Dolores Pauline  Sawyer (McFarland)
Bar Harbor and Trenton -- Dolores Pauline (McFarland) Sawyer, 86, went to be with the Lord March 4, 2017 at her home in Trenton. She was born December 19, 1930 the daughter of Marion (Day) and Walton McFarland Sr., in Blue Hill.

Dolores was raised in Town Hill on Mt. Desert Island later moving to Ellsworth. She attended Eastern College in PA and graduated from Barrington College, Rhode Island. Dolores worked at the Lynam Agency in Bar Harbor and then later as a customs agent at the Bar Harbor ferry terminal.

Dolores married Lloyd Sawyer and they made their home in Bar Harbor from 1956 until 2012 when they moved to Trenton, and lived under the care of their loving son Tom. Dolores enjoyed music and was a volunteer at the Maine Seacoast Mission for a number of years. When the hotels were full in Bar Harbor she and Lloyd would “take in tourists” and provide overnight lodging. Dolores was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and attended the First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor, where she sang in the choir and enjoyed their Bible study.

Dolores is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Lloyd; 3 sons, Tom Sawyer, Wayne Sawyer and wife Meg, and Bruce Sawyer and wife Meg; 4 grandchildren, Karis, Kristen, Nathan and Brynnli; a brother Walton McFarland, Jr. and wife Marion; nephew, Gary McFarland and wife Debbie; niece, Jean Donovan and husband Roland Donovan, Jr.; and sister-in-law Dolores “Dimp” Sawyer.

A Memorial Service will be held 2pm, Sat., March 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 46 Ledgelawn Avenue, Bar Harbor with Pastor Scott Records. A reception will follow at the church.

Those who desire may make contributions in Dolores' memory to the Baptist Youth Camp c/o First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor.
