Marguerite  Staples
Marguerite Staples, 97, died February 16, 2017 at a Bangor nursing home. She was born on Swans Island, October 29, 1919, the daughter of Chester and Bessie (Herrick) Joyce.

Marguerite was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married Norman Staples on December 24, 1942 and they were happily married for 60 years. She was deeply devoted to her church. She enjoyed participating in Ladies’ Aide, teaching Sunday school, attending weekly services and volunteering. She was a gifted cook and was great at solving crossword puzzles. Marguerite enjoyed gardening, bird watching and riding around the Island. She often passed her time crocheting and watching game shows on TV. Her family has many fond memories of looking at old pictures with her and hearing stories from long ago.

She is survived by her three sons, Terry Staples and his life partner, Joanna Kohler of Swans Island, Peter Staples and wife Theolyn of Bangor, and Timothy Staples and wife Susan of Standish; eight grandchildren, Terrie-Jo Sinclair, Christopher Staples, Keith Staples, Shelly Morin, Allison Kahkonen, William Staples, Zachary Staples and Rhonda Ranquist; many special great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Norman; daughter, Judith; brothers, Keith and Roy Joyce; sisters, Alice Burns and Gladys Joyce.

Friends and family are invited for visitation 2:00-4:00, February 19, 2017 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth. A funeral service and burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marguerite’s memory may be made to the Atlantic Baptist Church Annex Fund, 351 Minturn Road, Swans Island 04685

The family would like to thank the staff at Sylvia Ross where she resided for the last three years.
