Obituary for David Nolf

Mount Desert
David Nolf, 68, died March 21, 2015 at MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor after a long battle with cancer.. He was born April 8, 1946 in Akron, Ohio, the son of Dr. Harold W. and Marie Garrett Nolf.
David graduated from Buchtel High School there and from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Following graduation he continued his education in England, Spain and Russia, where he later married. A writer and wine educator, David owned and managed wine specialty shops and restaurants in Vermont, Ohio, and Santa Fe, NM for many years. After coming to Maine he wrote for the Arcady Music Society and authored a popular wine column in the Bar Harbor Times. Later he joined the staff of Port In A Storm Bookstore where he was employed until it closed. He was a member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, Island Readers and Writers, and several poetry societies.
David’s father died in 1993. He is survived by his mother, Marie Nolf of Somesville; sister Cherry Schreiber and her husband, Dan Marshall of Parkersburg, WV; nieces Kristen Schreiber of Marietta, OH, Melanie and husband Matthew Rogers of Indianapolis,IN; Susan and Charles Kettlewell and their son Liam of Columbus, OH; brother and sister-in –law, Craig and Bonnie Nolf of Flagstaff, AZ, nephews Joseph Nolf of Akron and Stephen and Amanda Nolf of Ellsworth; nieces Emily Harris and son Cole of Flagstaff and Jennifer and John Thurston of Grand Canyon; his aunt Gena Duff and cousins Karen and Chris Foster and Dr. Scott Duff and their families of PA and FL; and his former wife, Olga Voronina of NY.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 2 PM at the Somesville Union Meeting House, United Church of Christ, led by the Rev. Victor Stanley.
