Obituary for Lillian D. Norwood

Bar Harbor and Scarborough
Lillian D. Norwood, 86, died July 24, 2013 in Scarborough. She was born the daughter of Clyde T. and Gladys (Braley) Porter.

Lillian lived in Town Hill for the majority of her life. The last three years she had been residing with her daughter, Mary, as her health had been failing. She met many people in this area that fell in love with her and called her Grambear. She had been married to Robert B. Norwood for 46 years and had been employed by the New England Telephone Company for 19 years and AT & T for 4 years before retiring in 1987. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She enjoyed fishing for many years. Lillian did a lot of knitting and crocheting which she then contributed her products to The Seacoast Mission and local schools. She spent hours transposing music to play melody on her electric bass guitar instead of cords. She traveled many years with the Les White Jr, Band going to nursing and boarding homes to entertain. She also towed his music wagon in several parades.
Lillian is survived by 2 daughters: Mary I. Goodwin, of Portland and Joyce S. Norwood, of Babcliff, TX; 1brothers, William H. Porter, of Milford, MA; 1 sisters, Maisie Schencks and husband, of Jonesport; 6 granddaughters, Colleen Morse, Angela Blanchette, Michelle Dorr, Pamela Mahan, Jaylene and Jayme Clough; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson, Boston, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by 2 brothers Lawrence and Raymond Porter and a sister, Marion Roberts.
Funeral Services will be held 11am, Monday, July 29, 2013 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main Street, Mt. Desert. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery, Town Hill.
