Obituary for Michael Anthony Vietti (Mike) Dr.

Dr. Michael (Mike) Anthony Vietti of Southwest Harbor, ME passed away in his sleep at home on December 7, 2010. He was born on March 27, 1941 to the late Michael Vietti and Minnie (Banke) Vietti Kazmierski in Pittsburg, KS. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Pittsburg, KS, Class of 1959. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Physics from Kansas State University (now Pittsburg State University) then his PhD in Physics from the University of Missouri, Rolla.
He was an Associate Professor of the Physics at the University of Maine, Orono for 16 years then became Vice President of Engineering for Rainwise, Inc, Bar Harbor, ME for the last 23 years.
He is survived by his wife, Celia Kay Somers Vietti of Southwest Harbor, ME. He is survived by his children: two daughters, Suzette Vietti Cowan and her husband Chris of Derry, NH; Marie Vietti of Boston, MA: four sons, Justin Vietti, Mario Vietti and Anthony Vietti, all of Southwest Harbor, ME; Dominic Vietti of Memphis, TN: three grandsons, Chad, Kevin and Nickolas Cowan, all of Derry, NH. He is also survived by three brothers; Anthony Vietti and his wife Joyce of Pittsburg, KS; Raymond Vietti and his wife Jackie of El Dorado, KS; Tom Kazmierski of Joplin, MO; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a close family friend Barbara Csavinszky of Old Town, ME and his beloved family pets, especially Ollie.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 5-7pm at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home,1139 Main St., Mt. Desert. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Ellsworth, with Fr. Scott Moore as celebrant on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11am. Interment arrangements in the spring are pending family review.
