Obituary for Charlotte S. Ingalls

Charlotte S. Ingalls, 95, beloved wife of the late Sheldon A. Ingalls, died peacefully and surrounded by family on June 14, 2010 at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was born in Bar Harbor, November 27, 1914, the daughter of Howe Clinton and Linnie Alice (Leland) Smith.
Mrs. Ingalls graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1931 and worked in Bar Harbor as a bookkeeper for many years retiring after 20 years from Morang Robinson Ford Garage in 1976. Following her retirement she became bookkeeper and treasurer of other organizations including the Pot & Kettle Club and Senior Citizens Club in Bar Harbor. She was a long time member of Eden Baptist Church, Salisbury Cove, and over many years held positions as Sunday School teacher, Moderator, Clerk, Deaconess, and Treasurer.
Mrs. Ingalls best enjoyed her home and family gatherings and will be sadly missed by her loving family, son Sheldon E. Ingalls and wife Sharon of E. Falmouth, Massachusetts, daughter Mary D. (Ingalls) Rush and husband Thomas of Bar Harbor; five grandchildren, Marydeane (Rush) Hanscome and husband Mark of Bar Harbor, Thomas S. Rush and companion Karen Svenson of Bar Harbor, Christopher A. Rush of Hampden, Sherri (Ingalls) LeVasseur and husband Kenneth of Amesbury, Massachusetts, Sheldon Robert Ingalls and wife Gina of Thompson Ridge, New York; Eight great grandchildren: Robert and Andrew Hanscome, Mary Mildred Rush, Joshua Perry and Scathach Downey-Rush, Olivia and Isabelle LeVasseur, and Sheldon Tyler Ingalls. Additionally she is survived by Sister-in-law Florence (Mrs. Sherrold) Smith of Auburn, New York, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her five brothers, Clinton, Sherrold, Gordon, Gerard and Harlan Smith, a special nephew Mark Gordon Smith, and grandniece Sarah Elizabeth Smith.
The family would like to express special love and appreciation to those who have made her later years more comfortable including the Staff at Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center, and most recently the staff at MDI Hospital, Dr. Brian Caine, family and friends. The family expresses special thanks to Barbara Reed for her loving friendship and care to Mom and her home for many years.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 17, 5:30-7:00 p.m.at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor with services at Eden Baptist Church, Salisbury Cove, on Friday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Robert L. Maddocks. Burial will be at the Hadley Point Cemetery. Donations in Charlotte’s memory may be made to Eden Baptist Church c/o Treasurer, Edward Dillon, 1044 State Hwy. 3, Bar Harbor, Maine 04609.
