Obituary for Rebecca Lynne Underwood

Rebecca Lynn Underwood, 67, went to be with her Lord on July 4, 2009. She was born January 30, 1942 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Alfred W. and Nettie (Beal) Vine. Rebecca served her God, her family and friends.
She was loved by many and was a friend to all and especially known for her gracious Christian hospitality. Rebecca served along with her husband with Wycliffe Bible Translators, for 35 years. She enjoyed the traveling their work entailed and was apt at and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking. Photography was her favorite hobby in recent years. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church for over 50 years and served there as organist.
Rebecca is survived by her best friend and husband of 45 years, David A. Underwood of Southwest Harbor. Two sons, David A. Underwood II of Ellsworth and Stephen T. Underwood and his wife, Darlene of Mobile, AL. and their children, Troy, Lydia Grace, Marie and Joshua. One daughter, Karen Lynne McIntyre and husband, Thomas P. of Keller, TX. and their children, Katelyn, Blake and Rebecca Rose. One brother, Harvard Vine and wife, Janet of Easley, SC and two sisters, Dorothy Reed and husband, Bradley and Janet Patton and husband, Wayne, all of Bass Harbor. Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews are “legion” and while unnamed individually are never the less well loved.
Friends are invited to call at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 1139 Main St, Mt Desert 4 to 6 PM Tuesday, July 7, 2009. The Funeral-memorial Service will be at Cornerstone Baptist Church in West Tremont at 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 8, 2009 with Pastor Gregory Hewitt officiating. An interment service for the family will follow the Memorial service at Mt. Height Cemetery. Contributions in Rebecca’s memory may be made to the Wycliff Bible Translators, PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862-8200.
