Obituary for Jennette H. Varnum

Jennette H. Varnum, 86, died December 14, 2008 at MDI Hospital. She was born August 26, 1922 in Tremont, the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Pomroy) Hamblen.
Jennette was a lifetime member of the Tremont Congregational Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and she was known as the May basket queen. She was a past member of the Pythian Sisters.
Jennette is survived by her son, John Varnum and wife, Grace of Tremont. Two brothers, Everett Hamblen and wife, Pat and Richard Hamblen and one sister, Elizabeth Parsons and husband, Alan, all of Tremont. One grandson, Mark Varnum and wife, Kristina of Newport. She was predeceased by her husband, John R. Varnum Sr., her daughter, Jane Varnum and by four siblings, Leon and Edward Hamblen, Elva Rich and Lissie Melson.
Memorial services will be held 11:00AM, Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Tremont Congregational church. Private interment will be at Mt. Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Contributions in Jennette’s memory may be made to the Tremont Congregational Church, c/o Carol Farley, PO Box 6, Bernard, ME 04612. Jennette’s family would like to thank Dr. Haynes and the staff of the Mt. Desert Island Hospital for the excellent care she received.
