Memberships

Jordan-Fernald Funeral Homes and their staff have been active members of their communities, involved with the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Business Association, the Mount Desert Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus. They also are members of the following associations that are connected directly to funeral service:

Selected Independent Funeral Homes

The purpose of this organization is “to study, develop and establish the highest standards of service for the benefit of the public. To provide a continuing forum for the exchange, development and dissemination of knowledge and information beneficial to members and the public. To furnish information to members and to the public regarding all aspects of funeral service. To cooperate with other organizations, public and private, to achieve these purposes and objectives.”

Maine Funeral Directors Association

The mission of these members is “as funeral directors, our calling imposes  upon us special responsibilities to those we serve and to the public at large. An important obligation is to provide information so that everyone can make knowledgeable decisions about funerals and funeral directors. In acceptance of our responsibilities, and as a condition of our membership in the MFDA, we affirm the following standards of good funeral practice and hereby pledge to conduct ourselves in every way and at all times in such a manner as to deserve the public trust and to foster and perpetuate high ethical standards of funeral service.”

National Funeral Directors Association

The NFDA is the largest funeral service organization in the United States of America, representing funeral directors since 1882.

Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice

The objectives of APFSP are to:  raise and improve the professional standards of funeral service practice by giving special recognition to those practitioners who complete certain qualifying activities; to identify and recognize those practitioners who have voluntarily entered a program of professional growth and development; and to encourage practitioners to make continuing education a lifelong process in their own self-interest, the interest of the persons they serve and the community in which they serve.

Lions Club

Lions Club International is an American secular, non-political service organization founded by Melvin Jones in 1917. As of April 2015, it had over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries around the world. Wikipedia
