There are three main avenues for obtaining copies of death certificates -- the funeral home, the local municipal authority, and the State.
Generally, the best option is to contact your funeral home. For Jordan-Fernald clients, call us at (207) 244-3183 to see how we can help.
The second best option is to contact the city hall or town office of the town where the individual died. The offices in the larger locations such as Bangor, Ellsworth, Blue Hill, and Mount Desert, can print certified copies of the death certificates on the spot.
A third option is to contact the Maine Department of Health and Human Services at (207) 287-3181 or on-line at www.maine.gov/dhhs/faq.htm#certificates.
